Gala Twins

Ah the joy of pastels - I love this square format - it seems easy to create a good composition, especially when you use the circle of a plate to 'enclose' your subject. My challenge here was to convey the bright side of the apple vs. the shadow side. What do you think? Does the shadow side need to be cooler? or does it work this warm? I love the reflection on the knife handle. It needed a bit more color in the gray portion so I stroked in the cool green. I think that works quite well. See below for a close-up.

Italian October

Welcome back pastels! My pastels have been sitting patiently in the cupboard, knowing that it would soon be their turn again. Their lusch immediate color is tantalizing and delicious. This small piece is taken from my trip to Italy and is a view just up the long driveway to our Villa. I never tire of the wonderful October color that is Italy. See below for a detail.
