Daisies On Yellow Platter

"Daisies on Yellow Platter" began much like my last piece. Tight. I worked on the composition for about 20 minutes with charcoal on my panel. Rubbing off anything that got too detailed. I filled in the darks. Stood back to check the balance. Stepping forward, I rubbed off more charcoal. There... time to slap some color on. I was determined to keep it simple. To work on shapes and negative painting. (painter's lingo). Tell me what you think. I love feedback. That's how we as artists get better. Paint, paint, paint. Then put it out there to see what you think. See below for a detail of the painting.

Daring Daisy

Daring Daisy is my Tiny Treasure #100 !!
I love this painting. I didn't always. It began like some . . . a "normal" still life. Boring. I picked at it. Stood back. Picked some more. Nope. That's not good. Scrub, scrub. Whoops. Washed out some more. Soon the foreground was gone and the underpainting sat there like a proud masterpiece.
I pushed in some timid pale yellow, hit the flower with some powerful red orange, scrubbed more from the upper right. Yes! the stem and shadow now disappear nicely. A touch of blue on the left to echo the shadow of the stem, and to cool off the daisy.

8x8" oil on panel.
Thank you all for being my fans.
Sorry, but I'm keeping this one for myself.

Vineyard Harvest

"Vineyard Harvest" is part of my Vineyard in Italy series. In this piece I tried to focus more on the leaf in the front than on the grapes. So the theory is to give the leaf more detail and the grapes less. I think it worked pretty well. I especially like the contrast of the purple grapes with the yellow background at the bottom with bits poking through in the upper portion of the painting.
