Friends

When we painted plein air on Lopez Island, one of the favorite spots was Center Church. Well, the local herd of sheep was very friendly - I suppose they knew they were being painted!
They have such fun round bodies!
Don't you just love the oranges and pinks!

Whidbey Harvest

This is a little farm on Whidbey Island. The old house has as much character as an old farmer!
The rich wheat yellow always catches my eye - it's harvest time!

Pastels are so much fun! They are immediate. No spending half an hour mixing paint before the first stroke! Love it! I have rediscovered Canson pastel paper. Many years ago that's all I used because there wasn't the selection we have today. I still had several sheets in great colors - no priming!

Ten Minute Challenge

This is another of my Ten Minute Challenge paintings. Each square is painted in just 10 minutes. It's a challenge designed to force artists to simplify, make decisions quickly, and "get 'er done"! This was particularly fun - this little figurine is an object I've used for many years in still life painting. She has a personality all her own and she doesn't mind sitting still!
"New Hat" Figurine   8x10" Oil on Canvas Panel   $150.00 unframed.
The first person to email jennifer@evenhusfineart.com claims the painting and will be emailed a PayPal invoice with tax and shipping added. Please put "New Hat" in the subject line.

"Turn" Me On

This was painted from a challenge at "Daily Paintworks."
"'Turn' Me On" 9x12 Oil on Panel $150.00 unframed.
First person to email jennifer@evenhusfineart.com claims this painting and will
receive a PayPal invoice with tax and shipping added. Please put "Turn Me On" in the subject line.

Rules: Get a timer. Divide your canvas or canvases (I used 1-9x12 panel) into 4 small squares (or rectangles). Choose ONE object. Just one. Set your timer for 10 minutes. Paint your object in the first square. When the timer goes off – stop! Go to next square. Repeat until you are done. You can rotate your object and/or change the light for each new square. This challenge forces you to ignore details and focus on shapes and values.

Lyrical Lily

LOVE this! I had quite a challenge with this one. I thought I was losing it . . . just wasn't working, I rubbed off most of the image twice - then, all of a sudden - the image that wanted to be painted appeared and I just followed its lead! I worked on getting the "essence" of the Calla lilies and worked on keeping it loose!

Calla Carnival

This small piece was so refreshing to create! I've been working on small and large oils and coming back to pastels is so "easy"! I took a series of photos of calla lilies in my son's yard last summer and plan to do more in these small pastels. Love the shapes and colors in sunlight and shadow!
