"Riotous Redolence"
"Riotous Redolence" is a powerful floral that will be the star of your next wine-tasting, or add the final touch to your office décor. The juxtaposition of the turquoise and red and the purple and orange create energy the draws the eye back and forth, creating its own rock music. The cool and warm palette lends further emotional depth. 12x12" pastel on UArt - Available at $425 plus tax and shipping - unframed. Purchase through DailyPaintworks or contact me.

Abstract is Thrilling
Not much more thrilling than when an abstract piece is successful, especially when it is laid over a failed impressionist piece, as "Late Night" was. This is 12x18" on UArt 400. Just entered this in the 2014 IAPS Fall Web Show.
JUST 10 MINUTES PLEASE
I've been having such fun with my 10-minute paintings ... A great exercise to help you stay loose, make quick decisions (helpful for Plein air painting), leave a trail to show your journey, and stop before you cover up a masterpiece! This is a demo I did for my students at Emerald Art Center in August. I love the abstract quality of this ... Often achieved because you literally don't have time for details... I also like to leave some of the underpainting showing through... Lucky is she who snagged this during the workshop!
"Three Orange Pears" done in ten minutes ... 6x12" Another thing that giving yourself a time limit does is keeps you from going back and fiddling with it . . . Although on a couple of these I did tweak for a few more minutes.... Not this one and the radishes above was actually done in 8 minutes!
I like the subtle indication of Baby's Breath in the bouquet...

Pinto Power
AFTER attending several rodeos this fall... I got an itch to once again paint horses (that's all I drew and painted as a young girl) ...my muse has been bugging me and filling my mind with all the wonderful horse images I might create... Well I finally listened and this happened. My daughter and I, both professional photographers, were shooting at the Ellensburg Rodeo on Labor Day ... So I had lots of reference material to work from. This image caught my eye because of the action and the wonderful lighting. This will probably remain in my private collection but I do plan to enter it in a few shows... RULE OF THIRDS
Checking my photo reference for composition and "rule of thirds" ... an easy way to do that ...pull it into Photoshop and pull the lines from the ruler to the approx. 1/3 positions to check the intersection points...on this one I can see that I'll want to move the top rose to the right just a bit... On my easel right now ...

OK BIG CHANGES... I love how this talked to me and gave me permission to trash it in order to explore its possibilities... and I like it much better now - I was willing to let it go rather than "settle" on a piece that just wasn't working ... that circle form was pulling the eye in too much so had to get rid of it... I just started pushing in pastel, nice and thick, going over and over different sections - really changed up the composition - scrubbed out parts, softened others, just right now!
"Marsh Madness" 12x18" Pastel on UArt 320
IMAGE FROM BELOW WITH MORE CHANGES ... Subtle but I like them ... Notice I still have my signature there ... like I'm done! Something just isn't sitting right with me... Then .... See above
ON MY EASEL a couple evenings ago ... lots of action here ...this was originally a vertical but turned it around and like it better this way... The joy of abstract!

Working from charcoal thumbnails I did as a demo in my recent workshop, these small landscapes were so fun - because thumbnails have no color, it allowed me the freedom to choose any color I wanted to create the mood I imagined. Here I imagined finding a field of abandoned wheat flowing into nearby woods. I love the pink sky and touches of purple that enhance the Indian yellow fields. $95 oil on panel - email evenhus@hotmail.com to purchase

Art Lovers Sunday at Pybus
"Creekside Cadence" was done yesterday during the 2nd Art Lovers Sunday
at Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee. You can see the block-in below and
then below that you'll see the B&W of the finished piece to check values.
I worked on creating pure design, working an composition, value and color.
There were a ton of people come through on Mother's Day - lots of energy,
laughter, and questions from passers by. 9x12" pastel on UArt 280.
"Showoff" Finds New Home
"Showoff" an exquisite pastel painting of some of my peonies has found a new home.
During the Pybus Public Market "Art Lover's Sunday" yesterday, she went with a collector who has several of my other paintings. And I know where she lives so I can go visit. That's the best, since sometimes it's hard to send these out into the world!
