Fox Farm Lavender

Fox Farm Lavender was done on Vashon Island, Washington during their Lavender festival this last weekend. Painting lavender is a challenge - there are so many fabulous lime greens in under the lavendar that glows as the sun filters through it.

Florence Train Depot

"Florence Train Depot" simply vibrates with color - like a tile mosaic. Our short time in the train depot after first arriving in Florence will forever live in my memory of unforgettable images. The constant movement of people and trains arriving and leaving and the light reflecting off the tile floors creates a wonderful motif. See below for a detail of the reflections.

Hilltop Villa

'Hilltop Villa' keeps pulling me back - challenging me to work on my values between foreground, middle ground, and background. You can see the background is pushed back by using lighter, grayer colors and less contrast. This is a common sight in the outskirts of Firenze (Florence). Ahh - Italy - I miss her! See an enlargement below.

Blossom Magic 4

"Blossom Magic 4" is the fourth in my Apple Blossom series. Each time I strive to get looser and lighter in color and form. Really like this composition - it's got lots of movement and good contrast. I had fun using blue for the leaves instead of green. Gives it a fresh, lively feel.

Blossom Magic 3 is the third in my Apple Blossom series. The colors in this piece are really true to the blossoms and the background. I enjoy creating abstract sections of a piece that tie everything together. If you look at the detail below, you'll see how I pulled the turquoise at the top, down into the sienna brown. I painted this very loosely, trying not to get too much detail in. My goal was to get more of the 'feeling' of blossoms - light, airy, delicate and still have a good strong composition.
