"Sunflower Waltz" 9x12" oil on canvas panel $250.00 unframed.

"Lavender Dreams" was one of those paintings that paint themselves. As an artist, after many years of painting practice, you begin to recognize compositions subconsciously, so the different areas of the painting dictate to the artist where the next line, next color block, next stroke must go. You listen. You don't question. You just follow. And this is what happens!
This is another piece I began as a plein air piece on Lopez Island last September, recently pulling it out to strengthen the composition and add more color. A group of us from the Northwest Pastel Society painted at the Lopez Island Winery, enjoying beautiful vistas, vines heavy with grapes and typical cool island weather. Grapes and vines are a favorite subject as they have infinite composition and color possibilities.

"Vin Du Lac in September" was painted in Chelan during the Music Fest and Wine Walk this last weekend! What fun everyone had - music, wine, conversation, laughter - loved it. I was signing my fine art print I created for the event (see http://lakechelanmusicfest.com/ to purchase a print or a T-Shirt). It was fabulosity to see my artwork spread all over town, on banners and on many chests! Between signings I went to Vin Du Lac, a winery/vineyard a short distance out of Chelan on the way to Manson, set up my plein air equipment between two rows of grape vines and painted this piece, above.
"Poplars Above River" This plein air piece was done between 3:30-5:00 in the afternoon. I love the horizontal light we have in our Valley. As I drove around looking for a spot to paint, this site grabbed me because of the composition - the tall poplars, the diagonals, and the wonderful just-about-Fall colors. I took artist license with the pink on the left, but the value is correct so it works. To emphasize the height of the poplars, I put in some apple trees on the left hand side.

This gorgeous site is just four minutes from my home. I drive by it often and it's one of those things that has just always been there and I haven't paid much attention, but when you begin to look at scenes through artist eyes, it changes and you see the possibilities. This was painted in an hour and a half, chasing the sun and lengthening shadows. Colors vary slightly on individual monitors.

"Fox Farm Rainbow" marries the complement
Fox Farm Lavender was done on Vashon Island, Washington during their Lavender festival this last weekend. Painting lavender is a challenge - there are so many fabulous lime greens in under the lavendar that glows as the sun filters through it.
"Florence Train Depot" simply vibrates with color - like a tile mosaic. Our short time in the train depot after first arriving in Florence will forever live in my memory of unforgettable images. The constant movement of people and trains arriving and leaving and the light reflecting off the tile floors creates a wonderful motif. See below for a detail of the reflections.

"Blossom Magic 4" is the fourth in my Apple Blossom series. Each time I strive to get looser and lighter in color and form. Really like this composition - it's got lots of movement and good contrast. I had fun using blue for the leaves instead of green. Gives it a fresh, lively feel.

Happy mom's day . . . I have loved clouds all my life - even though they sometimes bring rain and thunderstorms. As children we used to sit in our living room that looked out over the Columbia River and the hills surrounding our beautiful Wenatchee Valley and watch lightning strikes start fires! Then I found Eric Sloan - a master cloud painter. No one comes close - but I sometimes try. Here is a plein air (painted out of doors) piece I did yesterday from my yard. As you know, even on a calm day, clouds change quickly so you have only a few moments to commit to the composition and paint away! The day was very bright so it was difficult to see if I was capturing the colors. I brought the painting into my studio and was pleased that, yes, I captured them pretty darned good! What do you think? See the detail below.
Since it is Apple Blossom weekend here in the beautiful Wenatchee Valley, what better subject matter than apple blossoms. Our mini-ranch is actually surrounded by apple orchards so I have plenty of resource material. I love the random shapes of the blossoms, no two are alike. The blossoms grow in clusters sometimes, creating a challenge for "negative painting," where you paint the subject by painting what is behind the subject!

"Vineyard Harvest" is part of my Vineyard in Italy series. In this piece I tried to focus more on the leaf in the front than on the grapes. So the theory is to give the leaf more detail and the grapes less. I think it worked pretty well. I especially like the contrast of the purple grapes with the yellow background at the bottom with bits poking through in the upper portion of the painting.

Villa Vines is my Tiny Treasure #98!! Two more and I will attain my first goal of 100 Tiny Treasures. My Tiny Treasures have accomplished two other goals I set for myself. The first is to become a better painter. Painting quick and small is a great way to "play" with paint, color, and composition. The other goal was to provide great artwork to the general public for a reasonable price. I hope you are all enjoying owning these small paintings. Be sure to tell your family and friends about them and send them my blog address so they, too, can sign up to be on the Tiny Treasure list! See below for a detail of "Villa Vines."
"Rockin' Radishes" is one of those paintings that doesn't come along very often. I love the composition with the placement of the round shapes of the radishes and the shadows that hold it all together. I also love the way the greens all blend together at the top - losing the detail. My digital camera has a bit of a problem capturing the reds, so you can expect that the reds are more true than shown here. The detail below shows the fun brushwork.
"Vino Time" went through a couple transitions before I was satisfied with it. The first one, the branches were too intrusive, the second, the grapes were too detailed, so after doing a little scubbing and moving things around this is how it ended. See the detail below.
